When ordinary becomes extraordinary

What does being happy mean?

Happy hails from the Middle English word hap, meaning “good luck.”

Is it good luck that makes us happy?

Who hasn’t heard:  “If only I could win the lottery, I would be happy.”

Others put happiness on hold:

“I can’t wait to retire and be happy”

“I hate winter.  I will be happy when it is over.”

And then there are the abnormal people, who always seem to be happy.

No, they aren’t rich, they still work, they enjoy all the seasons, they have had their share of life’s misfortunes, and they live in the moment.

Trite? maybe?

The happiest people enjoy ordinary things, However, is anything ordinary on this planet?

They genuinely like people and show it.

They are content with what they have.

They give generously.

They are kind and forgiving.

Their attitude towards living is upbeat, positive and bright.

No wonder they often smile, laugh, and make others feel special.

There is no agenda for the abnormal ones:  They are serendipitous.

And none of this is because of “good luck.”

What do you do on a grey, rainy, foggy day?

It just doesn’t have the same ambience that a sunny warm day has.

Shopping?

No.  I might get wet.

Cleaning?

No. I like to clean when….. well, let me say this:  Never.

Taxes?

No.  Way too depressing on a gloomy day.

Watching the news?

No.  I hate war and gas prices.

Walk the dog?

No.  I don’t have one.

Vegetate?

Yes!!!

Kick back, relax and embrace the crazy rollercoaster of the winter of 2022, enjoying a myriad of treats.

Oink oink.

Fridays

The 3 crazies have a pact:  Each gets to plan the Friday lunch.

Today, it was Sam’s turn.

Thai food.

Wow!

Spring rolls, Bermuda appetizers, Cashew nuts with chicken and fried ice cream.

Amazing flavors.

We took a jaunt to check out the Lynnville Hotel opening.

Colleen was in charge.

Place was packed.

I think the locals are enjoying the return of their favorite watering hole.

Next stop:  Specs.

The boys were there, in rare form.

After dinner cocktails with Phil, Amy, Ron, Dustin, Eric, Walt, and Nick.

My turn next Friday.

Life is good.

Seize the moment.

Celebrate with friends.

Drink wine.

Be goofy.

Remember:

We may never pass this way again.

Spur of the moment V day

V day:  I was going to stay home.

Then, it happened.

Time to hang out with my valentines:

Judy, John, Emma, Dustin, Phil, Bill, Gina, Glenn, Hunter, Austin, Eric, Philandy, Tan Jen, Eric, Meg, Kelly, and Mitch.

We drank a toast to innocence, we drank a toast to now,

It was one of the craziest evenings ever.

Who says you have to have a romantic filled V day?

Life is better with friends, laughter, and a few cocktails.

Moral of the story:  Find your niche, celebrate life and enjoy good friends.

One never knows how wonderful it can be.

Just do it.

Happy Valentine’s day everyone!

Wolf

Cheers!

Hey!  It’s Super Bowl Sunday!!

So?

The gang decided to hang out early, since most of us are old, and we cannot stay up for the game.

We arrived at 1pm, had cocktails and nachos and finally got home around 530pm.

Frankly, I am not a fan of those who were scheduled for half time.

Remember the days when the commercials were more exciting than the game?

Sissy presented me with a bag full of goodies to celebrate Valentine’s day.

Such a sweetheart.

This morning, the forecast was for a dusting of snow.

Wrong again.

4 inches.

My neighbor gave my driveway a blow job, and I headed for Skeets, for a ding dong and coffee.

My attempt to clean off the car was half assed, but most of the snow blew off when I was driving.

The FEDEX truck behind me got most of it.

Hey!  I can’t help it that I am fragile and feeble, when it comes to snow removal, or just about anything else.

With the exception of hanging out at  Skeets eating ding dongs.

We didn’t get to hear the band, since we were glued to the bar stools, inside the bar..

The band was in the garage.

It was a raucous, crazy time with the 6 of us crazies.

Bret, I think that is his name, from Indiana, joined the group and paid our tab.

What a lovely surprise.

I just checked the game score:  Rams ahead by 3.

I hope the Bengals rally.

Wishing you all a very happy V day tomorrow.

It is a special day for me:  2 of my brothers were born on Feb 14, 18 years apart.

Time for this fabulous gal to call it a day.

Life is good!!!

When it is all over, what will be your legacy?

Your children?

Your career?

Wealth?

Your mark on the world?

Friends who admire and love you?

Accepting who you are?

Overcoming adversity?

Kindness?

Generosity?

Making others feel special and valued?

Ambition?

Tenacity?

Wisdom?

Paying it forward?

Fame and fortune?

Survival?

Enjoying and appreciating what you have?

Pursuing education?

Whatever it is, to be loved by others, regardless of our limitations, can be the greatest legacy of all.

The vegetable conspiracy

Wasn’t it mid night when Cinderella turned into a pumpkin?

Or was that Rumpelstiltskin?

Regardless, here I am at mid night, wide eyed and bushy tailed, listening to the rain.

This all has to do with cauliflower and broccoli.

I ate both last night at dinner, at Sissy’s.

Those who suffer from digestive issues, understand.

Oh the humanity!

I wondered if I could fit into my extra large pjs.

As they say in Minnesota, “it’s the bloating, don’tcha know?”

As I lay awake for hours, watching forensic files, I decided to rise from the ashes to live another day.

I didn’t last long.

At 11am, back to bed I went.

Up at 3 PM.

Oh goody:  I probably won’t sleep again tonight.

Here I am, in the wee hours of the morning, just as I predicted.

I have turned into the great pumpkin, right up there with my pals Cinderella and Rumple.

At my age, I am surprised that I have finally  understood the root of my insomnia.  It’s that @#%@%#@% healthy food.

From now on, bring on the beer and wings.

How’s your day going?

Woke up to the wildest hairdo the world has ever seen.

Good thing it was only me and the hairdresser who saw it.

She didn’t comment, but when it was finally cut and high lighted, she said:  “Wow. You sure needed that.”

I love it when people rub it in.

We got to talking about the Chinese joint next door, and suddenly I got a craving for chicken with cashews.

It was divine.

Then I noticed that Brady has retired.

Dann it.  He is the best looking quarterback ever.

Oh yeah, and a pretty good football player too.

When I got home, I checked my phone.  Sissy had a hissy fit, because I wasn’t answering when she called to invite me to dinner.

I tried to call her.

No answer.

So it was my turn for a hissy fit.

My favorited watch band bit the dust.

Off to the jewelry store, for a new one.

I waited and browsed through the ruby rings.

Naturally, the one I liked was a little pricey:  Around 4 grand.

Did I buy it?

No, but I got a new watch band.

And that was only 30 bucks.

Time to fill up the car.

Let’s see:  gas is around $4 bucks a gallon.

My little escape usually filled up for 15 to 20 bucks.

This time, $40.

My cousin Bill contacted me to let me know that my cousin June had died on January 4th.

Geez.  A little late notice, don’t you think?

June was a role model for me when I was a kid.  She encouraged me to read books and would invite me to stay with her and her wonderful collection of literature.

Strange, isn’t it, how families grow apart.

However, I am not exactly the best communicator with my family, having lived in a dozen different states since I left Minnesota over 40 years ago.

I just finished 2 bottles of water.

Chinese food:  a little on the salty side.

A heat wave is on its way tomorrow.

Translation:  Temps above freezing.

Do not put the snow shovels away yet:  Another big one headed east for the weekend.

Stay safe!!
