The lone goose

A magnificent sight: snow geese flying in formation.

A marvelous example of team spirit.

Except for one.

Poor thing: He was headed the wrong way, alone.

The lone wolf, or the loose goose, reminiscent of some of our heroes.

Robert Frost: “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.”

There are times when we follow the crowd.

There are times when we stand alone.

It all depends on our values, beliefs and courage.

It’s been said that compromising is the best way to solve differences.

I don’t argue with that.

However, leaders often fly solo, willing to challenge the status quo, to change the world.

Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, John Lennon, Jonas Salk, Rosa Parks, Abraham Lincoln, Stephen Hawking, Dalai Lama, Susan B Anthony, Desmond Tutu, Neil Armstrong, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Richard Dawkins, Jimmy Carter: Just some of our leaders and heroes who led by example.

If you happen to encounter a lone goose, listen to his message.

His path may hold the wisdom and fortitude to make a difference in our world.
