Magic in the air

Having a leisurely cup of java at Dunkin this morning, checking the weather.

Snow squalls on the way, until 1pm.

Many accidents reported, near my house.

The first snow fall of the year.

Funny how so many forget how to drive in it.

Not even half an inch of snow, and the cars are piling up.

On the way home, 3 young deer prancing and playing in the fresh snow.

Beautiful.

Winter has unofficially arrived.

Time to relax at home with hot chocolate, and a book.

Retirement has its perks.

I hope you had a beautiful day.

Be safe, stay healthy and take time to enjoy the beauty of nature.

Sit pretty

Secret revealed: My favorite dog has satisfactorily completed my training.

He knows when I show up, it is treat time.

6 or 7 hours of dog sitting, and no less than 4 treats an hour.

“Sit pretty!”

“No. not good enough.”

“Sit pretty.”

Up go the paws in an amazing display of bribery.

Somehow he knows when I have an extra treat and will bug the hell out of me, until I relinquish it.

Not until he sits pretty for me, once again.

He likes to play ball, too, with a half eaten pumpkin looking mess of a ball.

Problem is that he won’t drop it.

He has trained me well in this area too.

I wait until he drops the ball, knowing I will reach down and grab it.

Nope. He is too fast for me.

After several attempts of not dropping, dropping and grabbing, he finally relinquishes and lets me grab the ball, full of foamy wet slime.

I like to sit in the garage, with the door open and a heater blasting, to keep me warm.

Mr. dog doesn’t like the heater.

As big as he is, he is afraid of the noise.

I believe my buddy does not like to be alone.

He follows me, wherever I go, including the bathroom.

Believe it or not, he sits pretty in there too.

And then the cat has to join in, wanting to sit in my lap.

By the way, neither wears a mask, and they obviously have not heard of social distancing.

I managed to finish a book I had been reading, in spite of the dog’s fear of the pages.

Yes, when I turn a page, he goes wild, and gives me an evil eye.

I laugh throughout the day, at the crazy antics of these two critters.

I really do love my furry friends, even though they have me wrapped around their fingers. Ooops. Their paws.

Soaking in the Vitamin D

Let’s not talk about the election.

At least now we won’t be seeing the same annoying political ads, where the candidates blast their opponents.

How about the weather in the Northeast?

70 degrees yesterday and another beauty on the way for today.

What a great Saturday to chill out and listen to a band on Spec’s patio.

Not just any band, it was James Supra. And what a treat it was!!

James strolled through the crowd to meet his fans.

He said, “Hi. Nice to meet you.”

Me: “HI, what’s your name?”

James: “James.”

Me: “Duh! OMG. You are “that” James. I am friends with your buddies over in Easton.”

Oh, my dear Beav: He loves your family!

The warm weather, friends, food and the music made me happy.

No stress.

No drama.

Just fun!

Today? As Jackson Browne sang, “Let’s get up and do it again.”

Be safe, stay healthy and choose to have a day of relaxation and fun!!

Get up and do it again

Dismal, cold and rainy day.

You know what they say: Rainy days and Mondays always get me down.

Not so today.

On my way, early to Cracker Barrel. A 3 hour delay.

What?

Oh yeah, it is Columbus day.

Well, guess what?

Hello Dunkin.

Not to be distressed, my girls were working.

The Lovely Lisa and the phenomenal Pam: Oh yeah. I could spend the rest of my life hanging with the “no filter” girls.

About 3pm or so, I noticed a few a few of the old boys club converging on the scene.

It was the start of a very interesting afternoon.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer.

Phil, Davey, Bryan, Chris, Pat, Ray, Liz and Todd.

The cutest reindeer ever.

After a rollicking time, it was time to go home, before I got cut off, or worse:

Black balled.

Yes, I missed Darin, but I got to see that cutey wooty Corey.

Life is good.

I am bad.

And that, my friends, is what I love about my dysfunctional life.

I hope you had a wonderful day.

Stay safe, healthy, and enjoy life: after all, life is meant to be enjoyed.

Tomorrow? As Jackson Browne sings: We’ll get up and do it again.

Surprise!!

Do you like surprises?

The good ones, that is.

Yesterday was filled with the good ones.

A lovely gift of fresh produce from the garden of Marlowe.

A visit from the long lost stranger, Mark.

Catching up with NY Jenn, now that she is back to work.

Who should walk in but Bry, who joined me for a drink or two.

A lunch date at 2pm: Sam, Patti, and guess who? SUE!!!!

Followed by a quick trip to Patti’s for after dinner drinks.

The afternoon came to an end way too soon.

Sam and Sue? Not sure if they went to another party or if they opted to go home.

Patti? Sleeping.

Me? On the patio with my BFF dog George.

Made sure George was inside, then drove home after an amazing day of surprises and fun.

Today? Go Eagles!!! And taco time!!

Ain’t life grand?

And how was your Friday?

Hey friends, I hope everyone is having a fabulous day.

At 7am, it was time to get the heck out of bed: don’t ask why.

And at 930am, after breakfast, it was time to go back to bed.

When the gang gathered for lunch, I was missing. Why? I was sleeping. Come on guys! Some of us need our beauty rest.

1230PM:

“Where are you, you goofy woman? Get your ass down here.”

Oh oh. I had slept into the lunch hour.

When you wake up, let me ask you: Are you hungry?

Not me.

A wine hang over is not a good thing.

2 glasses of wine, the night before, and I was toasted.

As I made my way, tentatively to the luncheon, all I wanted was a beer.

Ok, 4 beers.

No food please.

At 4pm, still not hungry. However, highly parched.

Time to head home.

4:20 is my bewitching hour: It is when I turn into a witch.

Home now,. Eating cashews.

Nuts are good for the soul.

I found an old pack of cigarettes and had a couple.

Cam someone please take me out back and shoot me?

Saturday is looming.

You know what Sir Elton says: Saturday night is all right for fighting.

I hate fighting.

I love everyone.

Yes, I do.

Just like Philadelphia Freedom: I love you, yes, I do.

Time to head back to bed.

I am out of control, and loving it.

Be safe, healthy, and choose to enjoy life.

From Brunch to dusk.

Sunday Brunch? Why not? Noon ok? Sure.

Eggs in a basket, bacon, ham, hash browns and screw drivers. Oink oink.

Stay for a beer? OK, why not?

The lovebirds arrived, unexpectedly. A match made in heaven. Our first meeting with Nicole. The afternoon whizzed by. She is definitely a keeper. Dustin: you are one lucky man.

We drank beer, smoked and vaped until it was time to say goodbye.

Then the games started: Song quiz, on google. Just Sissy Belle and I. Well, Hellooooooooooooooooooo Google. Next, movie quiz. And finally, a baton twirling show with John Phillips Sousa playing in the background.

Getting towards twilight now. Here comes Otto. Next: Kyle and Ray.

No, you can’t leave now. How about one more beer?

One more? Oh sure. Who are you kidding? Just one more. And one for the road. And, “Don’t you have to work tomorrow?”

Dark now. Let’s hear some music: Everything from God Bless the USA to Louis Armstrong’s What at wonderful world, to the Talking Heads’ And she was.

Really now, I have to go.

Kyle follows me, to make sure I am ok.

How the heck did it get this late.

After all, I was just going to Sunday brunch.

I swear I am turning into the mad hatter, worse every day.

And guess what?

Finally, after all these years of compromising, I can be me.

And I love it.

Be safe, healthy, and remember: There is nothing as wonderful as being who you are.

How was your week?

Reviewing the past week:

Tina, aka Dana showed up unexpectedly for lunch on Friday. It was like happy days are here again.

John and Judi are back from Nashville. I think they are the happiest, funniest couple I know.

The rain did not stop kait from visiting at the Tiki Bar. She brings fun and joy wherever she goes.

Salmon Patty, aka Sam and Patti were a hoot on our trip to Jersey. 3 days of hilarious fun and crazy behavior, although my favorite pooch missed me. I think Ray did, too.

The boys in the hood decided to take on a liberal, in a rare political squabble. Believe it or not, we still are friends.

A transformed Liz lit up the room and our lives as she joined us for pizza and a beer.

We ushered in the chilly autumn, with hoodies and jeans.

Looking forward to evenings with a bon fire.

Be safe, healthy, and reflect on your happy moments every day.

Go for it!

So, you think you tell heaven from hell. Blue skies from pain?

Ok, I am not P Floyd. However, I am a song afictionado.

Today was the 4th day of celebrating Sam’s birthday.

Geez! This birthday is gonna kill me.

After a lovely lunch, we made our way to the house of ill repute: Patti and her husband’s house.

Slightly dehydrated and completely parched, I had to ask my friends: What’s your name, who’s your daddy?

When the guests started to arrive, I sang: Call out the instigator, cuz there’s something in the air.

See what I mean?

Time to get my act together and grow up.

It crossed my mind, and then I said to myself: Why?

Life is meant to be enjoyed.

And whatever happens, I just can’t bring myself to change.

What you see is what you get.

Working is fine, but… when you no longer have a career, life takes on a new and exciting path.

Remember Crosby Stills and Nash?

There’s so much time to make up everywhere you turn

Time we have wasted on the way

So much water moving underneath the bridge

Let the water come and carry us away

I hope you will agree: As I mentioned earlier, life is meant to be enjoyed.

For some of us, we are entering the autumn of our lives.

Live while you can!!

Choose happiness.

Have fun.

Enjoy this journey!

Queens, one eyed jacks and the sunshine of your life

From a one eyed Jack to an unemployed queen epitomizes my past few days.

A nasty yellow jacket got riled up and stung Patti’s eye. What a fright! She insisted it would just go away on its own, and suffered for a few days until she finally agreed to a trip to urgent care. I stopped in to see her last night and the swelling had subsided, thanks to steroids.

The queen is busy with job interviews, when she isn’t bossing her friends around. I think she may have found the job she would like. I hope she will be in charge of many hundreds of people, who need supervision and bossing.

By the way, both of these ladies are Irish, stubborn and bossy. Good thing I am the quiet demure one, taking all their punishing behavior.

Our dear Kim will no longer be my “doctor”. I always looked forward to seeing her, as she prescribed my meds, listened to my sad stories and entertained us with her creative and wild imitations. She will be missed! Several of her many friends stopped by last night to wish her well. We just don’t want to let go of her.

No, I have not yet had the mammogram. OK? There I said it. Will I? Maybe, when my dance card permits. The intermittent pain is gone, and I am in no hurry to get squeezed.

It was so good seeing Mary and Kathy again. I have missed my cooter friends. We always have a great time, just talking and laughing. I can’t wait until Kathy decides to stay home for more than one or two days. Until then, I hope Mary will continue to stop over at DMs for lunch, so I can join her.

A great 37th birthday lunch with Bobby yesterday. Too bad he is too old for me. Such a cutie!!

Game day seems like long ago, but it was Sunday. Patti, the one eyed wonder, made jumbolia for lunch! Wow! Really good. The queen, Dustin, Patti’s “husband” who shall remain anonymous and I enjoyed it immensely. The games took second place to Patti’s lunch. Next Sunday? We are taking a break over the Labor Day weekend.

It’s a rainy, gloomy day, except of course, when I am around. I am the sunshine of your life.

Hope you all are safe, healthy and are choosing to have a happy day!!
